In documenting events, things, people, places I believe that there is always an element of time that is involved. Capturing the essence of this time; its feeling, mood and aesthetics is my drive. Like the wavelengths of light hitting our retina, this time is fleeting. While time may be fleeting, capturing a moment with in photography is a way to hold that time and bend it.

I strive in my art work to always seek out new ideas and processes. I am influenced by phenomenology and how visual languages function and influence our world.

Dismay & Profana Inkjet Prints 2010These photographs mimic popular couture fashionadvertisements through simulated scenes of brutality, domination, self loathing, and power. Void of textual input and brand this body of work challenges theintended, accustomed apathetic response from consumers towards abusive commercial imagery of women. Designers often manufacture scenes of the aftermath of abuse, or moments of self destruction and this violent subject matter is trivialized after the consumer reads the text, tag-line or copy.Dismay & Profana implores critical thought and subverts fashion photography by re-creating commercial images, eliminating branding, textual copy, and exploiting the impact that an image can posses.These large and vivid color photographs display a woman in turmoil, caught in debilitated situations of abuseand self destruction; while also capturing the bizarre and seductive nature of many fashion photographs.

TxT Msg: Inkjet Prints 2009These photographs demonstrate a humorous look at how we communicate with one another through text messages. There have been incredible advances in the ways we can stay connected and communicate with one another. Yet miscommunication between people is becoming the norm, and our physical connections during conversations havebeen reduced. SMS or text messaging has been a catalyst in this miscommunication. Words themselves are reduced to phonics or anagrams so that they better fit with in the 160 character limit and bastardizing language.The images depict two peoples hands in close proximity while engaged in a conversation. There is staged quality that resembles commercial product photographyand magnifies the superficiality of the conversations. The conversations are absurd because they are talking to each other using language that is typically found in text messages. The text message conversations themselves are also taken out of contextand contribute to the absurdity of the work.

Monolithic 35mm Film digtally scanned 2009In its early years photography was considered more of a science than an art by some. A part of its contribution to science has been to document and record with a microscopic lens beyond what the eye can normally see. Macro photography abstracts objects and creates a false sense of scale. Monolithic enlarges the surface of skin and gives the viewer the ability to scrutinize the various imperfections and inconsistencies.The scale and abstracted forms of the body emphasizes the folds and shadows in a similar approach as landscape photography. This body of work demonstrates the formal shape and line quality of our skin, while also using a scientific approach of magnification to examine a subject.

I was born and raised in Colorado and have a deep passion for the Rockies. I received my Bachelors in Fine Art from Metropolitan State College of Denver where I studied photography, digital video, and graphic design. I have exhibited my work at numerous contemporary art spaces in the greater Denver metro area.
